SPEAKER\PANEL DISCUSSION

Dr. Kathie Wright is an ardent follower of Christ who is also a professor and psychologist. Her training as a therapist focused on cultural awareness in helping others to authentically connect with their own stories to find solutions for reaching psychological wellbeing. Serving as a professor of psychology at a community college allows her to be among a group of learners from various countries, cultures, and walks of life.

She organizes Global Leaders, the college’s international, intercultural group aimed at making a difference through service and conversations that promote compassionate care.  When one authentically shares their story as others listen with curiosity born of sincere concern, the room becomes a cathedral.

Volunteering with students and other faculty and staff  in the college food pantry, she admires the holiness of human hearts given over to love.

More than four decades ago, she married the love of her life who also introduced her to Christ. Her husband was from a different state, a different region, and a different ethnicity  than her own. The joy of life has been in seeking more of Christ together on wild adventures wherever the Lord leads. Together they have traveled extensively and learned along the way about how place informs beliefs. Whether with a friend at home in her living room or with a woman serendipitously met at a train depot, her favorite opportunity is to be in heart-to-heart conversation. She listens in a way that brings out the unexpected story. Together, she and the woman  can place the story in context of what the Lord is doing.

Church life involves helping to bring women into mentoring and being mentored. She leads a creative team of seven women who design the women’s mentoring ministry.

She is the liaison to the Cebu City mission where a missionary family is building connections to foster intimacy with Christ through open doors in art and prison ministry. Church development is an ongoing focus.

As a part of the spiritual team on the Zambia Medical Mission, she is mutually encouraged among women who live in the communal culture of southern Zambia. The cultural uniqueness there involves women needing support in teaching of Christ through a world where polygamy is the norm and spiritism is part of the history lived even in the present.

In each role, she admires the design of humans that God has woven into his plan for all to come to himself in prayer, humility and belief.

Shawna L. Watkins grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as a PK (preacher’s kid). She is the oldest of three children born to Willie and Shelia Lynch. She obtained her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma, and a Master of Public Administration from Arkansas State University. She is blessed to be married to David B.T. Watkins III, Minister of the South Central Church of Christ in Raleigh, NC. They are the proud parents of two sons, David B. Watkins IV, age 13 and Kaden Watkins, age 8.

Shawna is continually blown away by the opportunities God blesses her with. Unsure at the beginning of this journey as to if she was equipped to walk the path God was placing before her, she became like Moses in the book of Exodus and developed excuses as to why she could not walk this path. But she knew that just as the Lord was with Moses, so shall he be with her. As he stated in Exodus 4:12, “Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say”. With that, Shawna became committed to being about her Father’s business and now boldly follows the path set before her and is grateful for the opportunities she has had speaking at women’s programs and conferences. In addition to this work Shawna serves as a board member of the National Preacher’s wives conference, serves on several Ministry committees, and teaches bible classes. Of all she’s involved in her greatest title is being a Child of the most high God!

WORKSHOP AND PANEL DISCUSSION

Leisha is the founder of the Be1 Experience – a ministry and weekend dedicated
to fostering unity and relationships within the body of Christ.
Leisha’s expectation of the Be1 Experience is based on the awareness of how
much God wants us to live in unity within the body of Christ and by just how far
we have to go! The idea for a weekend dedicated to unity started years ago from
a conversation with her dad, Jerry Lawlis. Her prayer is that it blesses you with a
renewed desire to know your sisters in Christ and to find ways to show the world
the gift of our Savior.
She graduated from Oklahoma Christian University where she met her husband
Tom. They have been married 40 years. They currently live in Fort Worth, TX and
they attend the Woodland West Church of Christ. Tom serves as one of the elders
and Leisha is the Women’s Ministry Leader. They have raised sons, Andrew,
Jacob and Daniel. And have two daughters in law – Bonnie and Megan.
The stars of the family are Clark, Merrick, Nellie and Hayes.
Leisha has been a speaker at the Red River Family Encampment, Telling the Story
Conference and various other retreats and events. She’s also enjoyed building a
